Fundraiser for Flash of the Spirit Worldwide Sound Festival
September 12 @ 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm$10.00
Help Multiflora make its annual global music festival in October a reality by joining us at Local 16 DC for a fundraising dinner with delicious traditional Afghan food, libations, raffles and music with Analog Soul Club DC and La Marvela!
Flash of the Spirit is Multiflora Productions annual month-long DIY global music festival that happens across multiple venues in Washington DC during the month of October. Its mission is to present emerging and remarkable international musicians from abroad as well as local musicians from our diverse immigrant communities to celebrate their stories, heritage, and cultures through their music.
If you can’t make the fundraiser you can still contribute to the festival here!
$10 gets you dinner and a drink but of course you can donate more if you wish.
As you might imagine, the costs of running a festival can be staggering, especially involving multiple venues. This year we have groups coming from Cuba, Colombia, China, Ukraine, Ethiopia, Ecuador, Mali, Peru and Puerto Rico. Several groups based in the US will be traveling to here from across the country as well as local groups based in the DC area. While we are hoping to cover most their performance fees by charging admission there are still many costs involved like lodging, transportation and basic hospitality. We want to keep the ticket prices low to keep the concerts accessible to more people. Your donations will help us offset these costs as well as helping us pay for other productions costs like renting sound equipment, venue fees, paying for PA equipment and sound engineers as well as marketing costs so we can reach as many people in the region as possible. We are also be showing four films with post-screening discussions and plan on paying for screening fees and providing honorariums to the filmmakers and guest speakers.
Beyond helping us with the festival budget, your contribution is essential to making the festival a reality for the city, the artists, and the community. Currently we have no institutional support or endowments so the festival is completely independent and reliant upon public support. Your support. No matter how great or small will help us. Eventually we see the festival growing year after year and becoming its own institution. By making it happen this year it will help us get the attention and support of the city, local business, and arts organizations.
