Labor Day Weekend Throwdown
September 3, 2017 @ 9:00 pm - September 4, 2017 @ 4:00 am
Sunday Sept 3rd from 9PM to 4AM come celebrate the holidays with us. Great line up of Artist-
Dj Underdog and NativeSun. From all parts of the diaspora, the monthly series has been DC’s most consistent African party, delivering Kwaito, Hiplife, Kuduro, South African House, Zouk, Soukous, Coupe Decale and, of course, Azonto, to a hungry city. Since its inception, there’s been a deep demand to keep it going– and so, in the name of promoting the latest music and culture coming from the diaspora, #OKAYAFRICADC continues its wave of mind-wide, foot friendly parties in the nation’s capital. No pretentiousness, no commercial radio nonsense, and no drama. Bring a towel and dancing shoes and join the event on facebook
Dr Dubenstein-Washington DC dub pioneer and trend setter will expand the walls of dub and sound with this rare DC show. Part of the DUB in DC series this will mark the 7th one and this one will sure to test the boundaries of experimentation in reggae dub. Nuff special guest will be in the building and we are told this one will be a one of a kind presentation.
Dj Diaspora started buying records in her home town Chicago, inspired by the underground deep house parties in the early 90s. After moving to the UK, she was blown away by West London’s “broken beat” scene, and knew her mission as a DJ– to share broken beat, and its influences, with the US. While DJing in Chicago, Philly, NYC, and DC, DJ Diaspora developed her eclectic blend of broken beat with Afrobeat, Latin beat, deep house, Brazilian jazz, disco, drum ‘n bass/jungle, dancehall, and nujazz, with a focus on the African diaspora (which most of broken beat’s UK originators are part of). DJ Diaspora has had the honor of opening for artists like Femi Kuti and the Positive Force and DJ Rekha of Basement Bhangra.
Please share this event and we will see you at Tropicalia along with the DC Heineken girls, NO COVER al night!!!!!
