Cuban Culture Alive and Percolating in Washington, DC, With Ernesto “Gato” Gatell’s Sin Frontera

Ernesto “Gato” Gatell is one of the most recognized and beloved Cuban singers alive today. His list of accomplishments over the past 30 years are far too vast to enumerate, but he has recorded and toured with the biggest names in Afro-Cuban music, has been a member of several All-Stars groups, and his recordings have been nominated for and/or won the top music industry awards in three countries – the U.S. Grammy, the Canadian Juno, and the Cuban CubaDisco. Upon immigrating to the U.S. as an Artist of Extraordinary Ability in 2014, he immediately formed his own musical group “Gato’s Sin Frontera” which combines Afro-Cuban folkloric music with contemporary styles like Latin Jazz, world, funk, and son. “Gato” now calls Washington, DC, his home away from home, adding another welcome layer to the thriving international arts and music scene in the nation’s capital.
