Hailu Mergia comes to the Atlas Performing Arts Center November 22nd
Beloved Ethiopian musician and superstar Hailu Mergia, featuring Low Mentality, continues to enjoy a revival of his career entertaining old and new fans. We’re looking forward to bring him to Atlas Performing Arts Center in Washington, DC on Saturday Nov. 22. Awesome Tapes From Africa released “Eti Gual Blenai,” a lesser-known cut from one of his classic records that’s getting a reissue in October 2014, Tche Belew. “With Mergia’s keys leading the charge, the band surges forward in spurts, then falls back into a simmering jam. It’s a time capsule from a fruitful period in Ethiopian music, one that was cut short by a new dictatorship that sent artists like Mergia fleeing to safer shores.” WAMU Bandwidth
